So....how does it work?

To put it simply, the immune system works based off of its' reaction to foreign substances called "antigens". When it recognizes antigens, it kicks into gear as it works to help the body get rid of them.

To fight off illness, the immune system triggers the B lymphocytes to make antibodies, which then lock onto specific antigens. Once they are formed, antibodies usually stay in our bodies just in case we may have to fight the same illness again.

Although our immune system was created for the sole purpose or protecting us from sickness, it's our job to take care of our bodies in order to have the best chance possible to battle illnesses.

Most of us probably know that a balanced diet and adequate sleep supports a strong immune system, but there are many other factors to keep in mind as well.

- Wash hands frequently and correctly.
